19th December 2023 :

Major shipping companies including MSC, Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, Evergreen, and CMA CGM have collectively decided to reroute their ships around Africa, moving away from the Red Sea and Suez Canal. This strategic shift is a direct response to the escalating attacks in the region, particularly by Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have been targeting vessels enroute to Israel. The impact of these attacks was notably seen in the case of the MSC PALATIUM III, which sustained damage and had to be temporarily decommissioned.

This rerouting mirrors the alternative path taken during the recent blockage of the Suez Canal. The change is expected to lead to potential delays, equipment shortages, and additional hurdles in logistics and supply chain management.

In response to these new challenges, shipping lines are preparing to implement surcharges to mitigate the effects of this situation. We at Crossborder Logistics remain committed to keeping you informed during these unexpected and difficult times. For more detailed information or assistance, please contact us
